More than a third of the MPs have signed a letter to Kiel’s preferred Prime Minister, calling on the UK to recognize the state of Palestine, the BBC said on its website.
Around 220 lawmakers from nine political parties supported the call – more than half of those workers – argue that UK perceptions send a “strong” message and a key step towards a solution for the two states.
The letter puts pressure on the prime minister after France has pledged to recognize the Palestinian state within months.
In an earlier statement after an emergency call between French President Emmanuel Macron and Germany’s Friedrich Merz, he argued that the priority acknowledged that the Palestinian state must be part of a “broader plan that will ultimately bring about a solution for the two states.”
In his statement, the Prime Minister said:
“The route sets the specific steps needed to turn the desperately needed ceasefire into lasting peace.
“Awareness of the Palestinian state must be one of these steps, and I am clear about that.
“But it must ultimately be part of a broader plan that will bring two state solutions and lasting security for Palestinians and Israelis.”
