The United States and Israel (Tehran, which is suspected of a humanitarian initiative backed by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF)) has attracted insightful criticism from UN human rights experts who say the programme hides its military and political purposes under false relief.
Launched in late May amid the ongoing siege of Israel’s Gaza Strip, GHF was promoted by Washington and Tel Aviv as a lifeline for Palestinians facing catastrophic hunger. However, UN experts argue that facts on earth reveal far more disturbing reality.
Since the establishment of the GHF, more than 1,500 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces while desperately trying to access the aid they needed.
On Tuesday, UN human rights experts called for the immediate dismantling of the GHF, calling it a “worrisome example” of how humanitarian operations can be weaponized for secret military and geopolitical interests.
“The GHF is a non-governmental organisation created by Israel with US support in February 2025, and is a totally unsettling example of how humanitarian relief will be used for secret military and geopolitical agendas to distribute aid to Gaza.”
They condemned the foundation’s “humanitarian” label and described it as part of Israel’s “humanitarian camouflage.” They are tactics that erode international relief standards and trust in broader humanitarian businesses.
Experts also urged the international community to impose a comprehensive arms embargo on Israel, suspend trade or investment contracts that could contribute to Palestinian suffering, and retain businesses that will hold them accountable for complicity in human rights abuses.
Earlier this month, Human Rights Watch described GHF aid sites as “death traps,” repeatedly cited “bloody” at distribution points, rather than protecting or relieving hopeless civilians.
Israel faces growing global condemnation for weaponizing starvation in the war with Gaza. Since the military attack began in October 2023, more than 61,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 150,000 have been injured. In addition, nearly 200 (half of those children) died of hunger and malnutrition.
Critics argue that the creation of the GHF is a calculated move to distract you from Israel’s intentional hunger policy and the act of genocide in Gaza. At the same time, the United States can maintain political coverage for continued support of Israeli military operations.
In fact, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation does not represent salvation. It represents a smokescreen and protects a deeper agenda of occupation, oppression and immunity.
