TEHRAN – The Israeli regime’s murder of Palestinian journalists in northern Gaza faces growing international condemnation.
“We are pleased to announce that we are an important source of service,” said Secretary-General Stephen Dujaric, a spokesman for the United Nations of Antonio Guterres. “We have always been very clear in condemning all the murders of journalists. In Gaza and everywhere, media workers must be free to do their jobs without free access to all areas that target them.
The UN Human Rights Office condemned the murder of Palestinian journalists in Gaza and described Israeli forces’ attacks in tents as “a serious violation of international humanitarian law.”
“Israel must respect and protect all civilians, including journalists,” the office said in a social media post, saying at least 242 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Gaza since October 2023.
“We want immediate, safe, unhindered access to Gaza for all journalists,” he added.
The murder of one of Gaza’s most well-known journalists, Anas Al Sharif, a journalist for Al Jazeera, was a deliberate effort to curb the Israeli regime’s reporting of “atrocities,” said Ken Ross, former executive director of Human Rights Watch.
“This is not a random killing. It’s not a journalist who happened to be caught up in the indoctrinated artillery fire of Israeli Palestinian civilians. It was a targeted killing,” Ross told Al Jazeera.
Amnesty International strongly condemned the murder, saying: “The intentional targeting and killing of journalists by the Israeli military constitutes war crimes under international humanitarian law. We are deeply saddened and heartbroken. Witness it.
A reporter without a border condemned what it called “accepted murders by the Israeli army” of Anas al-Sharif and some of his colleagues. Media Watchdog told AFP that it “will be strongly and angeredly condemned the recognized murders by the Israeli military” of correspondent Al Jazeera and other journalists.
The Committee for Protecting Journalists (CPJ) said it was “appearing” by the killing.
“The pattern of labeling extremists without providing credible evidence to Israeli journalists raises serious questions about their intentions and respect for freedom of the press,” said Salakda, director of the CPJ.
“Journalists are civilians and should never be targeted. Those responsible for these killings must be accountable,” she added.
The CPJ also pointed out that in July it urged the international community to protect Al-Sharif, reiterating that the Israeli occupation regime has not provided evidence to support his claims.
The rights advocate repeatedly stated that Al-Sharif has been targeted for his frontline reporting and that there is no evidence in the Israeli regime’s claims.
The Free Press Foundation also condemned the killings and called for urgent international action to prevent further attacks on the media.
“People who are angry at the recent horrifying image of hunger and suffering in Gaza should know that they have never seen a journalist provide funding without risking their lives.”
Stern went on to say: “That’s why Israel targets and kills them in violation of international law. Now, whenever the massacre begins, the world understands how important this job is.”
Jeremy Corbyn, a former leader of the British Labour Party, described the murder of journalists as “a disease beyond words” and “a hopeless attempt to silence the truth about Israel’s ongoing crimes against humanity.”
“We will shame all those who gave Israel the authority to kill with immunity,” Congress members posted on social media.
Mark Botenga, a Belgian member of the European Parliament, wrote on social media that more journalists have lost their lives in Gaza than in other modern wars. “This is a war with the media supported by Europe,” the MEP added.
David Shoridge, a member of Australia’s Green Party, stressed that the killing occurred while the Israeli government continued to block foreign journalists from entering Gaza. “Now, with the murders of Anas al-Sharif, Muhammad Kleika, Ibrahim Zahir and Muhammad Nuffal, all Al-Jazira’s teams in Gaza have been killed by Israel,” he said.
“Every day, I try to hide the truth about the genocide they are committing.”
The Palestinian journalist syndicate has vehemently condemned the recent murder of journalists in Gaza, describing it as a “bloody crime” and a deliberate assassination.
Hamas described the murder as a brutal crime that surpasses all boundaries of fascism and crime.
“Following the criminal airstrikes in journalists’ tents at Alsifa Hospital in West Gaza city, occupation forces like the Nazi joined 232 journalists who killed cold blood. They were imposed by the occupyers on the people of Gaza,” the resistance movement said.
Palestinian Islamic Jihad also stated, “The intentional targeting of journalist tents at the entrance to Alsifa Hospital in Gaza by Zionist occupying is a heinous war crime committed in the perfect perspective of the world.
