The Aldabil Friday Mosque is one of the oldest monuments in the province. According to cultural heritage experts, the building is considered one of the most important historical monuments in northwest Iran, thanks to its various historic layers and inspiration from architecture and art during the Seljuk, Ilhonid and Safavid eras.
Dabbagh Abdollahi added: “Last year with the establishment of the Ardabil Friday Mosque Base, the mosque was added to the list of national national bases, and this year we signed a contract worth 300 billion rials to begin restoration efforts on this invaluable historic monument.”
This contract is separate from the landscaping and is allocated for the restoration of the porch of this mosque. He pointed out that this is a very noble job. He added that experts are currently restoring the memorial.
“I hope in the next year or two, I can restore the porch and organize the mosque grounds on Friday.”
The Aldabil Friday Mosque, now known as the “Aldabil Friday Mosque”, is located northeast of the city of Aadibil, near Pilsham Suddin and Abdullahshah, on a high hill. This precious historic building is one of the oldest mosques in northwest Iran and was last restored during the Ilhonid era.
The original building of the mosque was built during the Seljuk period, an old ruin that was destroyed as a result of the Mongol invasion at 620 AH and rebuilt at 650 AH.
This mosque, also known as the Jame Mosque in several manuscripts and books, is a remnant of the large, extensive and unique mosque that was built in various Islamic times, especially during the Seljuk period and lived until the early Safavid period, but there is no complete information on the construction of this mosque.
The main building of the mosque features beautiful prism compositions decorated with mosaic tile decorations, and the structure under the dome is like at each corner of this square, three corners are made with two rectangular openings for lighting, providing light to the Mirab region.
The Friday mosque in Aldabil consists of three parts. The first part of the building is associated with the base of the minaret, visible just a short distance from the mosque, with two octagonal base parts 5 meters in diameter and a cylindrical body. The second part of the building is associated with a covered mosque located on nine wooden pillars. Finally, the third part of the building is associated with the old mosque. The old mosque is a combination of four arches and domes, decorated with several tiles, many of these facades disappearing.
