TEHRAN – Iran has generated around $7.4 billion from foreign tourism in past Iranian calendar years (ends in March 2025), with over 7 million international visitors reaching the country, the Minister of Culture said Thursday.
Seied Reza Salehi Amiri, Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Crafts, said that each foreign tourist spent an average of $1,000-$3,000 during his stay in the Islamic Republic.
“According to the global assessment, the average revenue per tourist is around $1,019. In Iran, this figure is estimated at around $1,000, while in the Persian Gulf region it reaches $2,000,” Salehi-Amiri said.
He added that the income from medical tourism is high, with each medical tourist spending up to $3,000.
Last year, 73.99 million foreign visitors entered the country, based on figures provided by Iran’s Law Enforcement Command (Farraja). Salehi-Amiri said their total spending will bring in $7.4 billion in revenue, highlighting the potential of the tourism sector to support economic growth.
According to previous reports from the Ministry of Tourism, most foreign tourists visiting Iran come from neighboring countries.
The Islamic Republic expects to reap jackpots from many tourist attractions such as bazaars, museums, mosques, bridges, baths, madrasas, spirits, churches, towers and mansions.
