The Pentagon quietly blocks attacking targets within Russia using a US-made long-range army tactical missile system (ATACM), limiting Kiev’s ability to employ these weapons against Moscow’s invasion, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday, citing US officials.
The news comes as President Donald Trump grew more frustrated and openly publicly by the war three years ago and the inability to secure a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
After a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin and subsequent talks with European leaders and Ukrainian President Voldimia Zelensky, Trump said on Friday he was once again considering blaming Russia with economic sanctions or walking away from the peace process. Massive sanctions, massive tariffs, or both, or we do nothing and say that’s your fight,” Trump said.
Trump wanted to arrange a bilateral meeting between Putin and Zelensky, but that has proven difficult too. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told NBC on Friday that the agenda for a sit-in with Zelensky was not in place.
“Putin is ready to meet Zelenskiy when the agenda is ready for the summit, and this agenda is not ready at all,” Lavrov told NBC, saying that no meetings are planned for now.
