Tehran – Head of the Tourism Committee of Yazd Islamic City Council has supported the Joint Tourism Initiative in sought close cooperation between Yazd and Isfahan.
Bibi-Fatemeh Haqirossadat made a statement during his day visit to Isfahan, saying the trip provided an opportunity for tourism associations in both cities to explore ways to expand collaboration.
Emphasizing the cultural, historical and religious tourism potential of both destinations, she said that Yazd and Isfahan could work together to attract more national and international visitors as part of Iran’s so-called “golden triangle tourism.”
The Golden Triangle Agreement, first signed in 2016, links the states of Isfahan, Fars and Yazd. The agreement was recently updated by the governor to strengthen cooperation, improve infrastructure and improve accessibility in three historic regions.
Haqirossadat said the discussion in Isfahan focused on tourist exchange programs and that close cooperation could extend visitor stays, create economic growth and create new jobs. She added that the partnership between Yazd and Isfahan could serve as a model for other historic cities seeking constructive interactions in the tourism sector.
In October 2024, mayors of Yazd, Isfahan and Shiraz signed a trilateral agreement in Shiraz under the framework of “Golden Triangle of Iran’s Tourism.” The agreement outlined the support of collaborative research projects, the use of international networks, and organizations for conferences, workshops and exchange visits. He also emphasized that it would identify investment opportunities and promote cultural and artistic programs that showcase the heritage of the three cities.
Once a hub of international trade and diplomacy, Isfahan is one of Iran’s major tourist destinations and is celebrated with mosques, palaces and bazaars. Located in the desert region of central Iran, Yazd is famous for its innovative urban planning that has sustained life in winding lanes, mud brick construction and arid environments.
