Tehran – Caretaker of Nader Zeinali, the Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, announced the discovery of the historic site in the village of Khosrowabad in Nazarabad County on Wednesday.
The findings came after public reports of suspicious excavations in the area, Isna reported.
He states: “Our conservation force officers were dispatched to the site shortly after receiving the report, and initial investigations allowed us to identify historical and ancient sites with a height of about 1.5 and a half meters and a radius of 200 meters. The presence of broken historic pottery in this area confirms the first evidence of this discovery.”
Zeinali added: “Immediately after the identification, the required orders were issued to conduct a more detailed technical and expert investigation so that valuable information about the historical and cultural background of the field can be obtained. Protecting and preventing the state’s cultural heritage is one of our top priorities.”
Alborz is one of Iran’s 31 provinces. Its capital is located at the foot of Mount Alborz, the city of Karaj, 10 km west of Tehran. Alborz is Iran’s smallest province in the region.
It is surrounded by Mazandaran, Tehran, Markaj and Kazbin provinces. Its name is driven by the Alborz Mountains. An important part of the mountain is located in the northern part of the state.
Historical resources and documents, as well as archaeological research, show that Alborz has a rich culture dating back to prehistoric times.
