Tehran – The first round of awarding a green label to Iranian hotels is being held with the aim of promoting a sustainable approach in tourism, said Mohammad Jahanshahi, an employee of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts.
According to the IRNA, he noted that the ceremony to award the Green Label to Iranian hotels will be held by the country’s Ministry of Tourism, in conjunction with the Iranian Hotel Managers Association in Tehran in the first week of Iranian month, in conjunction with the World Tourism Day.
He added: “Our goal is to strengthen the country’s green tourism flow, and we are looking to expand our sustainable approach in business and national tourism destinations.”
“Our efforts focus on optimizing resources, increasing tourism supply chain productivity, promoting and engaging with human and natural communities across the industry,” Jahanshahi said.
He states: “This event, which is being held for the first time at this level and scale, targets the global tourism industry and our country’s resource consumption and carbon emissions, one of the key sources of hotels.”
Officials said the event was held as part of a special programme to commemorate World Tourism Day and is a continuation of efforts made in recent years to improve the country’s tourism sustainability indicators.
Jahanshahi has called on activists in the country’s hotel industry to take part in this event, placing great value on resource consumption and efforts made in this regard, as well as strengthening the social responsibility of the domestic tourism industry.
