The global Sumud Flotilla arrived in Tunis on a Sunday night. The last scheduled stop was about to arrive in Gaza with humanitarian supplies to combat Israel’s naval blockade.
Tunisian police fought “Viva Palestine” as they passed the local boat and met the boat as they waved the flag. Organizers say the fleet fired by Barcelona weathered delays and surveillance at sea.
The fleet will be restocked for two days, with organizers scheduled to sail towards Gaza on September 10th, joining dozens of Tunisian boats sailing north in solidarity.
Figures such as Mandra Mandela and Adele Hehnell are among the volunteers who argue that “our mission is humane, legal and unstoppable.” Israel’s national security minister vowed to take the boats and detain activists. This reminds me of past engagements, including the 2010 attack on Mabi Marmara.
