Uruguay strongly condemns Israel’s airstrikes in Qatar’s capital Doha, expressing solidarity between the Qatar government and its people.
The Uruguayan government described the attack as a serious violation of international law and Qatar’s sovereignty, further destabilizing the already vulnerable security situation in the Middle East. Uruguay has also reiterated its urgent call to maintain its efforts towards a negotiated comprehensive solution to the Gaza crisis.
The airstrikes on Tuesday targeted senior Hamas leaders involved in ceasefire negotiations. While the main Hamas figures remained alive, five low-ranking members and Qatari security officials were killed, escalating tensions in the region.
Qatar denounced the strike on its most powerful terms and labeled it as a violation of “co-sick” and “reckless” international norms. The attack sparked widespread international condemnation from Iran, West Asia and many other countries since.
