Tehran – The General Bureau of the National Meteorite Secretariat was established in Zarando, Kelman, as one of the origins of the heavenly gemstones.
The inauguration ceremony was held on Monday, with geological surveys and Iran’s (GSI) mineral exploration officials, Governor Zaland, Deputy Director of the Kerman Cultural Heritage Division, University Prime Minister and Zaland administrators taking part, the IRNA reported.
Zarand Governor Hemmat Izadi said: “We need to try to create new ideas and creative activities to attract capital to the region. Attracting tourists is one of the important ways we must actively pursue.”
He added that the fact that Zarand is being featured today as a key met stone centre in the country shows fruitful efforts in the short term, and certainly in the medium term, he can show more of himself.
Izadi will mention the launch of the National Met Stone Office as an important step in organizing relevant promotion and commercial spaces, creating a platform for Zarand to hold local and national markets, promoting the buying and selling of gems, gems and Met stones, and to promote, identify and issue the inspection, identification, issuance of Meteorite Identification Certificates of Meteorite Identification Committeations.
He noted not only holding training courses, field trips, and searches for metstones, but also setting up a specialized workshop to reduce Zarand’s heavenly gemstones, in collaboration with geological surveys and mineral exploration of government agencies, science and academic centres, Iran, Ministry of the Environment, Department of Environment, and the Department of Cultural Heritage as a measure of equations of Azad University of Islamic. Mohammad Eslami, head of the Zarand Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Bureau, said the secretariat will soon introduce a registration site to register stakeholders from all over the country.
Zarand County, as a pioneer of extensive met stone activities, including holding national festivals, launching a free met stone market, and being located in the heart of Iran and the desert, provided country sales to connect two large LUTs and the central desert.
The first Iranian Jewelry and Meteorite Festival took place in Zaland for three days from June 27th to 29th this year. Zaland is located 80 km north of Karman State
In July 2025, Abdul Hossein Hemati, a lawmaker representing Zaland and Koubanan of the Iranian parliament, said the second metstone market will be held in Zaland.
He expressed hope that the event would attract visitors to Kamani and even attract domestic and foreign tourists, the IRNA reported.
In a meeting with the director of Zarand Cultural Heritage Department Mohammad Eslami, Hemmati highly praised his efforts to successfully hold the first Met Stone Festival in Zarand. “The successful holding of this festival, the dynamic participation of activists from these sectors in different regions of the country and the reflection on this event led to the vision of the geotourism region of Zaland, and the greatest supporters have come to exist to feed The Mactureman, including the presence of dinosaur traces as the largest and old, advanced animal, as a result of such an event.”
“This measure has shown that we have very great capabilities in our country. If it is well planned to draw tourists, it will bring even more benefits to cities, states, and even the entire country.”
Eslami said on his side, “We tried to open new windows for the tourism industry.
He added that Carman’s Cultural Heritage Division is implementing important measures to transform Zaland into a pilot geopark across the country.
“We gradually witness the presence of activists from around the world in Zaland, which draws many tourists to the city and the state of Carman.”
