TEHR – Fatemeh Karimi, a tourism reporter for Mehr news agency, was recognized as an influential woman in Iran’s tourism division at a ceremony in Tehran’s Tourism Week on Monday.
Tourism Minister Reza Salehi Amiri presented the award to Karimi, a female pioneer at the Tourism Conference held at Melat Hall in Sadabad Historical Complex.
Speaking at the event, Karimi said female reporters have played an important role in portraying the country as a safe destination for women, highlighting the potential for tourism in Iran. “Most reporters in cultural heritage, tourism and handicrafts are women. They helped introduce society to tourism and Iran’s capabilities.”
Karimi added that many of these reporters are travelers themselves, and through observation and writing, “it makes Iran a safe country to female tourists around the world.”
She received similar acclaim in 2017 World Tourism Day at a ceremony attended by the Ambassador, Parliamentary and Tourism Bureau.
In December 2021, Karimi was featured as one of four pioneering women in Iran’s tourism sector in a book published by the University of Queensland, Australia, focusing on domestic women’s tourism activities. The book states: “In recent years, Iranian women have played a variety of roles in the development of tourism, from working as tour guides to becoming rural entrepreneurs.
Iranian women operate and manage small and medium-sized businesses, including major national and international tour groups, creating and selling handicrafts, providing tourism training and education, and managing different types of accommodation and related services in different cities.
Furthermore, the number of active women in Iran is increasing, increasingly participating in projects related to sustainability and tourism, empowering women through tourism and protecting the environment.
