Global SUMUD FLOTILLA on Tuesday entered what organizers called Gaza’s “danger zone” and pushed east to challenge Israeli naval blockade with emergency medical care, food and international volunteers.
Organizers said that the Turkish drones circled overhead as the convoy resumed after previous drone strikes damaged several boats but caused casualties.
Italy and Spain are ready to send naval vessels to monitor the area and provide rescue assistance.
On Tuesday, Yacht Johnny M suffered a leak in the engine, and its passengers were evacuated safely. The Turkish ship later supplied a red crescent moon, and the flotilla continued, organizers said.
Supporters describe the fleet as an act of peaceful summ. It is a steady resistance to Gaza’s 18 lockdown. They evoke memories of the 2010 Mabi Marmara attack when Israeli forces killed nine activists at sea as a warning of the dangers of another violent intercept.
At sea and European ports, unions and activists are mobilizing to protect their fleets and condemn what they call an unbalanced Israeli attack.
