Tehran – Iran’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts has announced the formation of a new committee to involve the Iranian diaspora to promote tourism and Iranian studies.
The committee works under the supervision of the Iranian Issues Council overseas to identify professionals and key figures in the tourism sector. The goal is to highlight Iran’s economic, cultural and scientific capabilities on the international stage, Deputy Tourism Minister Anuhiravan Moseni Banpei said on Sunday.
“One of the committee’s priorities is the active participation of expatriate Iranians in holding exhibitions and international events to introduce Iran’s tourist attractions and capabilities to the world,” he said.
Officials added that the initiative is trying to help younger generations of Iranians reconnect with their heritage through the opportunity to experience the culture of their homeland.
Mohseni-Bandpei further highlighted the domestic tourism initiative, and the province has organized over 400 events and festivals across the country, including Isfahan, Shiraz, Mashhad and the northern provinces, increasing domestic tourism demand and satisfaction of tourists and stakeholders in the hotel industry.
Regarding medical tourism, Moseni Vanpei said Iran is recognized as a reliable destination for the sector. The newly developed system accurately registers services, standards and prices, increases patient confidence, improves the quality of health services, and optimizes Iran’s potential in health and tourism.
He concluded that the ultimate goal of the committee is to harness the country’s tourism and iranology potential through the active participation of Iranians abroad to ensure sustainable tourism development both domestically and internationally.
In the beginning of July, Zia Hashemi, the cultural vice-chairman of Iran’s first vice president, announced the government and parliamentary efforts to ease the travel procedures for millions of Iranians living abroad who want to visit their hometowns.
Available data suggests that approximately 7.3 million foreign tourists ended the past Persian Republic on March 20, 2025. This ended on March 20, 2025. As stated by Mosenibandpee, the data is based on an internationally recognized definition of tourism, categorizing whether they are staying at least one night as a traveler, and whether they are staying as an Iranian foreigner.
The Islamic Republic expects to reap jackpots from many tourist attractions, including bazaars, museums, mosques, bridges, baths, madrasas, spirits, churches, towers, and mansions.
