TEHRAN – Haftran Gol-o-Morg tilework panels showcasing Shiraz’s unique artistic heritage have been officially unveiled at the 2025 Shiraz Expo, which will be held from October 12 to 15 at the Permanent International Exhibition Center in the southern Iranian city.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by Hojatollah Ayyoubi, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Tourism and Director of the International Office of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, Behzad Moridi, Director of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts in Fars Province, and local artisans.
The artwork reflects the distinctive Shiraz school tilework and highlights the iconic Gol-o-Morg (flower and bird) motif, a traditional Persian painting style in which flowers represent lovers and birds represent lovers. The design incorporates perspective normals and spiral twists, creating a delicately elongated bird in a limited and innovative palette of gold, silver, and lapis lazuli.
Sources say this innovative use of color is a world first and symbolizes the creativity and authenticity of Shiraz’s tile-making art.
Haftran (seven-coloured) tilework is a historic Persian technique dating back to the Ilkhanate period, and is famous for its intricate glazing method, which maintains color clarity through special ink lines. Shiraz tiles traditionally feature seven colors and are known for their superior glaze quality and unique chemical composition, which distinguishes them from styles from other regions.
Shiraz Expo 2025 aims to highlight the economic, industrial, cultural and technological capabilities of Fars province. With more than 500 booths spread over 20,000 square meters, the four-day event will feature manufacturing, technology, handicrafts, investment projects and agricultural products.
