TEHRAN – In an important move to promote cultural accessibility, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Cultural Heritage announced free admission to all museums and historical sites across Iran for the visually impaired on the occasion of International White Cane Day.
“Visually impaired persons and one companion will be allowed free entry to all museums, archaeological sites and historical buildings managed by the ministry on Wednesday Mehr 23 (October 15),” Ali Darabi, deputy minister of the Ministry of Culture and Heritage, said in a statement on Tuesday.
Dharavi added that the decision aims to respect the status of visually impaired people and promote cultural justice by ensuring equal access to the country’s rich cultural and historical heritage.
He stressed that White Cane Day is a reminder of the importance of respect, recognition and social participation for the visually impaired, adding that cultural heritage gains greater value when it becomes accessible and tangible to all.
He also noted that special programs were organized at selected cultural and historical institutions to attract visitors on this important day.
