TEHRAN – Fishing piers, jet skis, jet boats and other water sports should be activated on the Bahmanshir and Arvandord rivers to develop tourism in the region, said Seyyed Mohammad Molavi, a member of Iran’s parliament representing Abadan.
According to Mehr News Agency, he said at the coordination meeting of the Health Tourism Conference held at Arvand Free Zone Organization on Thursday that out of 115 countries in the world, Iran ranks 73rd in the tourism development index.
He emphasized that one of Khuzestan’s assets is the Arvand Free Zone Organization, which should be utilized to promote tourism.
Mr. Moravy continued that in the tourism economy, programs need to be consistent with the local ecosystem.
In another part of his speech, he discussed tourism priorities in Abadan and Khorramshahr, saying, “Marine tourism is the driving force for tourism in the region. With the good weather, who will come to Abadan to see farms and industries? To develop tourism in the region, fishing piers, jet skis and jet boats, and other water sports should be activated on the Bahmansir and Arvandord rivers.”
He said that the Homa Hotel Group’s professional hotel management course was essential for hotels in the region.
Referring to the sea line, Moravy said that the Social Security Agency Tourism Group (HEGTA) has been asked to participate in the establishment of a sea line between Abadan and Iraqi ports, and also to activate water taxis.
He believed that human resource development was the key to progress and said that professional tourism courses should also be held for Free Zone Organization employees.
Referring to health tourism, he said the cities of Abadan and Khorramshahr should not be the only transit points for Iraqi tourists, and plans should be made to provide medical treatment in the area.
Mr. Molavi pointed out that the Arvandrud and Bahmansir rivers can provide great capacity for the tourism economy and employment, in addition to health tourism.
