TEHRAN — Iran Carpet Art Day was celebrated in the conference hall of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Berlin, attended by several ambassadors and diplomats based in Germany, as well as lovers of authentic Iranian culture and art.
According to ISNA, during the ceremony, Iranian Ambassador to Germany Majid Nili Ahmadabadi said that Iranian rugs are a symbol of art, perseverance and the refined taste of the Iranian people, emphasizing their important role in introducing Iran’s rich culture to the world.
He noted the role of Persian rugs in strengthening the historical relations between Iran and Germany, and said that the establishment of the Iran-German Joint Carpet House is an opportunity to strengthen and promote cooperation in this field.
In a video message to the event, Director of the National Carpet Center of Iran Zahra Kamani emphasized the historical, artistic and economic importance of Iranian hand-woven carpets and the long-standing presence of Iranian carpet producers in Germany. She also noted the continued efforts of Iranian artists and weavers to preserve both the authenticity and innovation of this ancient art.
The event showcased elaborate carpets from different regions of Iran, showcasing the country’s cultural and artistic diversity and garnering a warm welcome from attendees.
A workshop on Iranian rug design by two renowned masters and a screening of a short film featuring the beauty of Iranian rugs were among the other highlights of the program.
At the end of the ceremony, some guests tied a symbolic “friendship knot” on the carpet, representing the cultural ties and friendship between the two countries.
Iranian rugs are one of the best-known symbols of Iranian culture and art and have long been considered around the world as a symbol of taste, creativity and perseverance. Germany has traditionally been a major center for Iranian carpet traders and merchants in Europe.
Carpet weaving is widely practiced throughout Iran, with cities such as Tabriz, Isfahan, and Kashan especially famous for their craftsmanship.
