TEHRAN – In order to strengthen ties between academia and the ceramics industry, a research center dedicated to ceramics was recently opened at Buari Sina University in Hamedan, state officials announced on Saturday.
Mohammad Reza Khuraji, deputy director for handicrafts at the Hamedan Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, said the aim of the center is to address gaps in ceramic production and supply chains and to foster direct cooperation between universities and active workshops, as reported by Milas Alia newspaper.
The center said it will encourage students to write dissertations and doctoral theses focusing on the practical tasks of the ceramics workshops. “Students can contribute by providing scientific and practical solutions through direct consultation and collaboration with artists and craftsmen,” Kraj added.
Kraj also announced that a national conference on pottery and ceramics value chain will be held in Hamedan from November 10 to 12, with academic, workshop and exhibition components. He said more than 50 research papers were submitted from universities across Iran, mainly focusing on the ceramic industry in Larezin.
Additionally, the accompanying exhibition will bring together leading potters and researchers from 13 provinces, including Tehran, Semnan, Tabriz, Khorasan Razavi and Isfahan, the official added.
Larezin, located in Hamedan Governorate, is recognized by the World Crafts Council as a global pottery city, known for its craftsmanship and long-standing tradition of pottery production.
