Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, branding him a “war criminal” and “perpetrator of genocide” and insisting he will ultimately be exposed to international justice.
Mr. Gil’s remarks came after Mr. Saar accused Venezuela of destabilizing the region and exacerbating the refugee crisis.
“The name of Venezuela is too great to come out of your unclean mouth and hands stained with innocent blood. We are a people who fight for sovereignty and defend human rights and international law. You represent the opposite,” Gil declared on his Telegram channel.
He added: “The important thing is that sooner or later you will have to face international justice.”
Venezuela has long been a staunch critic of Israel’s military operations in Gaza and across the Middle East, calling them acts of genocide and calling on international courts to prosecute Israeli leaders.
In recent months, Venezuelan officials have condemned Israeli actions to obstruct humanitarian aid, including blocking ships carrying supplies to Gaza, calling it “piracy” and part of a systematic campaign against Palestinians.
