TEHRAN – The 30th Conference of the Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CSP30), which opened on February 24, aims to symbolize international cooperation against the scourge of chemical weapons. Participants come together to reaffirm collective responsibility, transparency, and a shared commitment to preventing the horrors of the use of weapons of mass destruction.
It has not acceded to the Chemical Weapons Convention, the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), or any binding framework for limiting weapons of mass destruction. This refusal makes Israel the single biggest obstacle to establishing a Middle East free of nuclear and chemical weapons, an idea long supported by the United Nations but blocked in practice by Tel Aviv’s defiance.
german approval
Western complicity was exposed when German Chancellor Friedrich Merz described Israel’s June 2025 attack on Iran as “a dirty job that Israel is doing for us all.” Mertz used this phrase to acknowledge that Israel acts as a tool of the West, carrying out attacks that other countries are unwilling to carry out openly. This statement is terrible. Germany’s statement exposes the hypocrisy of Western governments that claim to abide by international law but praise violations by their allies.
nuclear rhetoric
In 2023, he was accused of explicitly raising a “credible nuclear threat” against Iran, a statement the Iranian government condemned as reckless and destabilizing.
Even more chillingly, in November 2023, Israel’s Minister of Culture and Heritage Amichai Eliyahu suggested that “nuking Gaza” was an option. Although Prime Minister Netanyahu suspended him from his cabinet and disavowed the comments, the fact that such rhetoric came from a sitting cabinet member shows how normalized nuclear blackmail and genocide threats have become in Israeli political discourse. They reflect a political culture in which the use of weapons of mass destruction against civilians is openly considered, even if later withdrawn.
regional invasion
Israel’s record of military operations in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Iran shows a willingness to act outside international law. Western media reports have documented the use of prohibited weapons such as white phosphorous in densely populated areas, with civilians bearing the brunt of indiscriminate attacks. Israeli airstrikes over the past two years have killed around 4,000 people in Lebanon, underscoring the extent of the destruction across the region.
What makes this record even more alarming is Israel’s reliance on Western-supplied weapons to carry out these attacks. American-made fighter jets, precision missiles, and European artillery were all used in attacks that devastated civilians in Gaza and Lebanon. Human rights organizations and media investigations are tracing the origins of these weapons and show how Western governments are enabling Israeli operations by providing the very tools used for mass murder.
western interests
It is cultivated. Western countries want Israel to circumvent international law because Israel’s unchecked militarism serves Western strategic interests in West Asia. Protected by the United States at the United Nations and armed with Western technology, Israel is destabilizing the region in ways that benefit its allies. Responsibility for Israel’s actions lies not only in Tel Aviv, but also in Washington, Berlin, and other capitals that enable and encourage Israeli defiance.
iran warning
Israel is estimated to have about 90 nuclear warheads, according to the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) Nuclear Notebook, and other independent analysts have suggested the number could be closer to 200. Israel, which refuses to accede to any disarmament treaty, is the greatest obstacle to peace in West Asia and the world. If the disarmament regime wants to maintain credibility, it must hold Israel accountable or risk rendering the noble promises of CSP30 meaningless.
