TEHRAN – By committing the most heinous crime in Gaza, Israel has not only reaffirmed its status as the most loathsome entity on the world stage and plunged itself into deeper isolation, but also dragged the United States down and made Washington an object of global hatred.
The United States remains Israel’s largest financial and military patron since the illegal organization was founded in 1948.
According to the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), Israel received more than $310 billion in aid (adjusted for inflation) through 2022, about 71% of which was directed to military purposes.
This support culminated during the Gaza War. Washington’s brazen support for the regime, especially manifested in the delivery of advanced weapons, massive military spending, and relentless political patronage, has branded the United States as a direct accomplice of the criminal regime.
It was this very partnership that sparked global hatred of American policies and dealt a severe blow to America’s soft power around the world.
A 2025 Pew Research Center report found that 49 percent of respondents in 24 countries surveyed currently have a negative view of the United States and its actions on the world stage.
The report documents a decline in America’s favorability ratings in 15 countries, confirming that global public opinion increasingly views the United States as a key driver of repeated humanitarian catastrophes and systematic human rights abuses.
This negative perception is particularly pronounced in Europe and Latin America, and seriously undermines Washington’s diplomatic legitimacy.
The impact of complicity in crimes against Gaza residents extends far beyond overseas shores.
Within the United States itself, public sentiment toward support for Israel has changed significantly. A 2025 Gallup poll found that only 32 percent of American adults support Israel’s military action in Gaza, while 60 percent openly oppose it.
Opposition is rapidly increasing among Democrats and independents. More than half of Americans ages 18 to 29 reject military aid to Israel.
Attitudes toward Israel itself have also deteriorated dramatically in the aftermath of crimes in Gaza, with 59 percent of American adults now holding negative views.
In stark contrast, perceptions of the Palestinians remain positive and are increasing among certain demographics, with 52 percent of Americans expressing a favorable opinion of the Palestinians.
These changes expose a widening gulf between official U.S. foreign policy and domestic public opinion as civilian deaths rise and the humanitarian crisis deepens.
Ultimately, the regime’s crimes in Gaza and America’s unconditional support for them have not only resulted in an unspeakable humanitarian disaster and massive destruction, but have also caused lasting damage to America’s international credibility and soft power.
Its declining popularity in 15 countries and growing domestic disapproval show that the United States can no longer maintain its legitimacy through military force alone.
Without a fundamental reassessment of our foreign policy, it will be extremely difficult to restore our former standing in the eyes of both the world and our own people.
