TEHRAN – The Markazi Cultural Heritage Department is seeking state registration for the petroglyphic monuments of Chenarestan province in Deirjan city, with the aim of preserving the cultural history and scientifically protecting this precious heritage.
According to a report by Miras Alia (CHTN), Hossein Mahmoudi, the province’s director of cultural heritage, announced that he has submitted documents regarding petroglyphic sites in Chenarestan province to the Department of Cultural Heritage Registration and Preservation.
He pointed out that the process of national registration of the Chenarestan petroglyph historic site has entered the planning stage at the National Registration Council after conducting professional surveys and field surveys. He said the site is one of the state’s historical monuments, adding that archaeological experts have carried out a comprehensive study of the existing design, accurately recorded all petroglyphs, determined the boundaries of the site’s expansion and conducted the necessary comparative studies. He said this data will be the main basis for the dossier.
He disclosed that the document was prepared after review and approval by the Markazi Registration Board in accordance with legal norms and procedures. It is hoped that this valuable site will be inscribed on the National Heritage List with planning and approval from the National Registration Council.
Mahmoudi continued that due to its antiquity, variety of motifs and cultural significance, the rock carvings of Chenarestan in Deirjan are among the archaeological sites for which the national registry plays an important role in conservation, management, research and tourism planning.
He stressed that the Markazi Cultural Heritage Department is seriously pursuing the process of heritage protection and that the national registration of the works is an important step to prevent possible damage and enhance the status of the state’s ancient heritage.
He concluded by stating that it is hoped that the national registration of this valuable site will serve as a basis for wider introduction, attracting specialized research, and developing cultural tourism in Delijan County.
