TEHRAN — On Thursday, the first tourist train departed from Kerman Railway Station bound for Rayen. This action marks the beginning of a new chapter in the development of travel infrastructure, strengthening sustainable tourism, and creating new experiences for tourists in the southeast of the country.
ISNA reported that the train departed in the presence of the director of Kerman’s Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, the director of Kerman Railways, officials, tourism activists and students from Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman University, who accompanied passengers on a fun route through a series of historical and natural attractions in Raien, including the historic Raien Citadel, waterfalls and the unique landscape of the region.
Commenting on the importance of this event, Morteza Nikulu, Director of Kerman’s Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, said: “The departure of the first tourist train from Kerman to Rayen is a clear sign of the province’s new approach to tourism development based on clean and sustainable transport.”
“Our efforts are to strengthen tourism infrastructure to make travel in Kerman Province easier, safer and more attractive for domestic and international tourists,” said Nikroo.
He added that Leien is one of the most important tourist destinations in the state and this train service will better showcase the cultural, historical and natural capabilities of the city. “With the continuation of this route, we hope to see thriving tourism, increased passenger stays and a balanced distribution of travel across the state.”
Mr. Niclou also highly appreciated the cooperation of the railways and other government agencies towards the realization of this plan, noting that this move is a practical step towards the sustainable development of tourism in the state. “By organizing various events and travel packages, we aim to make this railway line one of the most attractive travel experiences in Kerman.”
According to the report, the first Kerman to Rayen tourist train started its journey with the support of Kerman Railways and Shaheed Bahonar University, and more than 250 students of the university participated in this route.
Rayen is a historic and touristic city in Kerman province, located on the slopes of Mount Hesar, southeast of the province’s center.
Leien is considered one of the pleasant summer cities of the province, located 100 kilometers from Kerman.
Kerman Province is located in southeastern Iran and is surrounded by Fars Province to the west, Yazd Province to the north, South Khorasan Province to the northeast, Sistan-Baluchestan Province to the east, and Hormozgan Province to the south. It includes the southern part of the Lut Desert, a desert in central Iran.
With an area of over 180,000 square kilometers, Kerman province is one of the largest provinces in Iran. It has a variety of climates, including warm, semi-arid, extremely dry, mild, and cold.
Here in Kerman, residents fight the hardships of the desert with bright faces and patient smiles. Each monument in Kerman shows a historical aspect of the people’s life. This makes Kerman a permanent museum exhibiting different eras of Iranian history.
Various types of stone tools and pottery dating back to the 5th millennium BC have been unearthed in the hills and plains of this area, demonstrating the antiquity of the civilization.
Kerman is home to countless historical sites, gardens, and scenic landscapes, including Bazaar Sartasari, Baqir Bas, Fath Abad Garden, Shahzadeh Garden, Qartz of the Lut Desert, and Bam Citadel.
