TEHRAN – Farzad Sharifi, Director of the Iram Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts Authority, said that artisans from the Ilami tribe recently participated in a handicraft exhibition held in the city of Kut in Iraq’s Wasit Governorate.
He added that the exhibition was held with the participation of Ilami artisans and was welcomed by visitors, as reported by Milas Aria (CHTN).
Sharifi also said that a group of artists, cultural activists and handicraft enthusiasts visited the exhibition.
He added that the event showcased a variety of works from various fields, including ceramics, rugs, leather, traditional jewelry and local hand-woven rugs, on display to the public.
Sharifi said that a handicraft exhibition was held in Kut city last week at the same time as a handicraft exhibition in Alhai city, Wasit province. Due to the warm welcome from visitors, the exhibition continued on Thursday, he added.
He said the program aims to strengthen cultural ties, introduce artistic capabilities and develop handicraft exchanges between Iran and Iraq.
Ilam province is a tribal region and its specially embossed kilim handicrafts are famous throughout the country. The most important handicrafts of this state are wickerwork, open carpets, silk products, rugs, felt carpets, and wood products. Ilam province, like other provinces in the country, has its own souvenirs, such as local chewing gum (gum from the Persian turpentine tree), local sweets and candies.
