Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held secret talks with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to discuss a new foreign management framework for governing the Gaza Strip, Al-Mayadeen reported on Monday, citing Israel Broadcasting Corporation (KAN).
KAN cited sources as saying that Prime Minister Blair met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the occupied territory last week to present his proposals in line with US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza’s future.
The blueprint establishes a peace commission chaired by Trump as an interim authority to administer Gaza for the first two years, with the option to renew its mandate.
The plan will also include the deployment of an “international stabilization force” tasked with ensuring the “demilitarization” of the besieged Strip. According to reports, President Trump proposed Blair to lead the council.
Blair has reportedly proposed ideas to Netanyahu, including a “pilot plan” for the Palestinian Authority (PA) to assume limited control over parts of Gaza. If deemed successful, the agreement would become permanent, the report said. Israeli sources told KAN that Prime Minister Blair’s idea “has not been completely rejected” by the Israeli government.
Palestinian resistance groups have already condemned the proposal, saying the foreign-initiated “peace council” is a reimposition of external rule reminiscent of the British Mandate era.
Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) have previously denounced attempts by the US government and its allies to impose an “international guardianship system” on Palestinians.
