TEHRAN – President Alfredo de Zayas blamed the United States for recent failures in negotiations with Iran, but called on the international community to take a firmer stance against Washington’s policies.
In a series of posts on X, the former United Nations Independent Expert on the Promotion of a Democratic and Fair International Order harshly criticized the actions of the United States during the talks in Islamabad, saying that the United States was not willing to negotiate in good faith.
He asserted that the breakdown in Pakistan negotiations was a direct result of what he characterized as a US pattern of imposing unilateral demands rather than pursuing mutual compromise. According to De Zayas, Washington is “not interested in anything in return, only in delivering orders.”
The former UN expert also called on the international community, including the Persian Gulf states, to recognize the United States and Israel as the main aggressors amid ongoing tensions, saying countries in the region are suffering the consequences of “unprovoked attacks” against Iran.
In his remarks, Desayas expressed further skepticism about U.S.-Israel commitments, arguing that both countries have a history of not honoring agreements or unilaterally reinterpreting them, undermining trust at the international level.
Additionally, he has made controversial statements regarding U.S. domestic politics, called for constitutional measures to remove the U.S. president, and accused the U.S. government of putting Israel’s interests above its own, at great human and financial cost.
The remarks came after talks in Islamabad between Iranian and US officials ended without an agreement.
