Israeli forces that stormed Jenin in the occupied West Bank set ablaze houses in the area, WAFA news agency reports.
The arson attacks include several homes in Jenin refugee camp and a home near Al Asir Mosque.
The attack comes on the third day of Israeli raids on Jenin and surrounding areas, killing 12 people and wounding dozens.
Hundreds of residents of Jenin left their homes on Thursday, prompted by messages from drones equipped with speakers, witnesses said, as the Israeli army launched several raids on the third day of a major military operation in the West Bank. The house was destroyed, France 24 reported.
Hospitals in Jenin, West Bank struggle to keep the lights on
According to Jenin Governor Kamal Abu al-Rab, Israeli forces have cut off power to the Jenin refugee camp and some surrounding areas in the West Bank.
Speaking to WAFA news agency, Al-Rub said the outage has spread to Jenin Hospital and IBN SINA Specialist Hospital, putting emergency operations at risk.
Currently, the hospital is using its fuel reserves and trying to bring in more fuel to power its emergency, dialysis and nursery departments, Al-Rub said.
NRC expresses concern over Israeli tactics in occupied West Bank
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has expressed “alarm” at the escalating violence in the occupied West Bank since the Gaza ceasefire came into force last week.
“We are seeing a disturbing pattern of unlawful use of force in the West Bank that is unnecessary, indiscriminate and disproportionate. This mirrors the tactics Israeli forces employ in Gaza. Angelita Caredda, NRC’s regional director for the Middle East and North Africa, said in a statement.
“Under international law, Israel must end its occupation of the Palestinian territories as quickly as possible. Until then, it must fully comply with its obligations as an occupying power, including the protection of civilians. No.”
Gaza’s total death toll rises to 47,283
Meanwhile, Gaza’s Ministry of Health said at least two people were killed and 120 bodies recovered from previous attacks in Gaza in the past 24 hours.
It also said hospitals in Gaza received 306 injured people during that period.
This announcement brings the total death toll in Gaza to 47,283. Israel’s war in Gaza has injured a total of 111,472 Palestinians, the ministry added.
West Bank “escalation” linked to Gaza ceasefire
Mohammad Dahle, a Palestinian lawyer, spoke to Al Jazeera about Israeli military attacks on the occupied West Bank. He said Netanyahu was pursuing the attack as follows:
*Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who opposed the cease-fire deal in Gaza and threatened to leave Netanyahu’s coalition.
*Hamas baits military retaliation. Israel could spin it as a justification for restarting the war in Gaza.
“I think it’s clear that it has to do with an agreement on a ceasefire,” Darre said. “They want to continue the war in Gaza, and the way to do that is through escalation in the West Bank.”
At least two Palestinians were killed by Israeli tank fire in the Tal Ash Sultan area west of Rafah in southern Gaza, the enclave’s civil defense told Al Jazeera.
