TEHRAN – President Donald Trump’s claims against his proposal to control the Gaza Strip made it clear that he is developing an evil Israeli scheme for Palestinian territory.
The US president said on Sunday that he is “committed to purchasing and owning Gaza.”
Trump, a real estate developer before entering politics, said he views the Palestinian enclave as “a big real estate site.”
“I think it’s a big mistake to allow Palestinians, or people living in Gaza, to return at yet another time. I don’t want Hamas to come back. And consider it a big real estate site. Please, and the US is about to own it, and we slowly – very slowly, we are not in a hurry – develop it. We quickly put stability into the Middle East I’m going to bring it,” he said.
Hamas has denounced Trump’s proposal to “buy and own” Gaza, as Palestinians block all evacuation and deportation plans.
“Gaza is not a property that can be bought and sold, but an integral part of our occupied Palestinian land… Addressing Palestinian issues regarding the mentality of real estate dealers is a recipe for failure,” says Izzat al-Risheq, A senior Hamas member said.
He added: Gaza belongs to those people. ”
Trump first came up with his controversial proposal last week.
“The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will work with it,” Trump said at a joint press conference on February 4th, visiting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House.
Trump originally proposed the option of sending American troops to Gaza to implement his plans. However, he later said that such action was not necessary.
He emphasizes that Palestinians in Gaza should leave the territory that pressure them to accommodate them in the regional countries, particularly Jordan and Egypt.
Trump’s idea has fueled backlash not only from local countries but from Washington’s western allies.
However, Netanyahu praises Trump, describing his ideas as “revolutionary” and “creative.”
Since launching the war with Gaza on October 7, 2023, Israel has attempted to force Palestinians to relocate from Gaza, opening the way for settlers to move in. Palestinian resilience has also urged Israel to agree to a ceasefire after more than 15 months of war, which killed nearly 62,000 people in Gaza.
Trump insists he wants to turn Gaza into a “Middle Eastern Riviera.”
Nevertheless, UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric rejected his proposal that “forced movement of people equals ethnic cleansing.”
Israel failed to bring the Palestinians to their lap after eliminating Hamas and destroying much of Gaza. For now, Trump’s ethnic cleanup plans for the territory will embark on a lost cause.
