TEHRAN – Government spokeswoman Fateme Mohajelani emphasized the government’s commitment to tourism development and cultural heritage preservation during his visit to the 18th Tehran International Tourism and Related Industry Exhibition on Thursday.
In an exclusive interview with the Tehran Times, Mohajerani emphasized the government’s perception of tourism as an important economic sector. She said: “One of the government’s responsibilities is to diversify economic resources, and tourism has great potential in this regard. Many countries, including our neighbors, have a significant amount of gross national income from tourism. It brings out the parts.”
Mohajelani emphasized the importance of regional cooperation by working on the government’s strategy to boost tourism. “Focusing on neighbouring countries, engaging with BRICS, Eurasia (Economic Union) and member states of Shanghai Cooperation Agency are important measures to attract foreign tourists and stimulate domestic tourism,” she adds. I did.
The discussion also addressed concerns about Iranian cultural heritage, including the subsidence of the land and the gradual deterioration of Persepolis due to biological and environmental factors. When asked about the government’s plans to allocate appropriate funds for restoration and conservation, Mohajelani was relieved that such efforts were already underway.
“The government is prioritizing appropriate budget allocations to preserve our valuable cultural heritage,” she said. “We have signed a contract with the National Development Fund, but yesterday the Minister (except Reza Salehi Amiri, where cultural heritage, tourism and handicrafts are noted) was reconstructing and protecting a culture of national importance. We signed an agreement to use resources allocated from the fund for the company, and the historic site.
She further confirmed that the budget was specifically allocated to the Ministry of Cultural Heritage to ensure that these sites were preserved for future generations.
At the opening ceremony, President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasized the need to promote tourism, strengthen friendly and ties with neighbouring countries. “Only in peace and harmony we can truly host and welcome each other,” he said. “Everyone who visits Iran is a respected guest. By God’s grace, we have a close and deep relationship with all our neighbors. And we will continue to carry this intimacy.”
He also criticized the spread of false stories about Iran, saying, “If people come and see for themselves, then it’s not true that they are being told by certain courts against Iran. You will notice that. Iran has friendly, loving, and humane people. Every corner of Iran is full of friendly and harmonious, and Iran’s hospitality is exemplary.”
The four-day tourism fair concluded at the Tehran Permanent International Fairgrounds on February 14th as an important platform for discussions on the future of Iran’s tourism industry and heritage preservation efforts.
