Tehran – The latest prisoner exchange for Palestinian prisoners left Israeli leaders a tail between their legs.
Hamas released three more Israeli prisoners on Saturday as part of a ceasefire with the administration. It was the sixth exchange under the Armistice Agreement that came into effect on January 19th.
Sagui Dekel Chen, Alexander Torfanov and Iair Horn were handed over to members of the International Committee of the Red Cross at a short ceremony at Khan Yunis in the Southern City of Gaza. The release came in exchange for the freedom of the 369 Palestinians detained in Israeli prisons.
Hamas’ Palestinian civilians, armed fighters and Islamic jihadist movement gathered before a prisoner-of-war release that took place near former Hamas leader Yahya Singwar, who had been a martyr to Israel in October.
Hamas rejected Trump’s plan to forcibly drive Gazan away, saying, “I tell the whole world that there is no migration other than Jerusalem (al-quds).”
Carrying the weapons, the Resistance Fighters exhibited their military capabilities, highlighting Israel’s failed military strategy in the war with Gaza.
“The release of the sixth batch of enemy prisoners confirms through negotiation that there is no way to release them, except to comply with the requirements of the ceasefire agreement,” Hamas said in a statement after its release. I stated.
Hamas’ statement also condemned President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal to Gaza.
“We say to the whole world. There are no migrations except Jerusalem (al-QUDS), which is what Trump has launched to do with all the calls for evacuation and liquidation, and from the forces of colonialism and occupation he has been in charge of his own. It’s our response to those who support the approach.”
At a press conference on February 4th, when he visited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump came up with the idea for the US to take control of Gaza.
“The US will take over the Gaza Strip and we will work with it,” he said at the time.
Trump has emphasized that Palestinians in Gaza should leave their territory and pressure the region’s countries, particularly Jordan and Egypt, to accept forced removal.
At a meeting with King Abdullah of Jordan in an oval office on Tuesday, Trump dug into his heels and said, “We’re going to take it (Gaza). We’ll hold it.”
Trump’s plan to forcibly drive away Palestinians was thoroughly rejected by Palestinians and countries in the region, including Egypt and Jordan. Washington’s western allies have also criticised his proposal.
Saturday’s extradition has released 25 prisoners of war since the start of the January ceasefire.
The ceasefire will be implemented in three phases. That first phase will end in March.
The armistice should lead to the release of all prisoners and the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Trump had previously proposed canceling the Gaza ceasefire if all prisoners were not released by Saturday.
Nearly 250 people were taken prisoner and more than 1,100 were killed after Hamas conducted a surprising military operation in southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
Netanyahu repeatedly vowed to continue the war until Hamas was eliminated and all prisoners were released. However, the failure of the Israeli military to achieve these goals led him to sign a ceasefire agreement with Hamas. The resistance movement released more than 100 Israeli prisoners in a weekly armistice agreement in November 2023.
Israel has killed nearly 62,000 Palestinians in a war with Gaza that lasted more than 15 months.
However, Palestinians continue to support the resistance group. Furthermore, Hamas demonstrated that Israel cannot dismantle its military capabilities.
For now, the fuss surrounding the ongoing threat of Trump and Netanyahu is a distraction aimed at diverting the focus from Israel’s failed military strategy in Gaza and the international isolation of the regime in the wake of atrocities at the Enclave. It simply helps as.
