Tehran – The lake has long been cherished as a peaceful and picturesque destination for travelers around the world. Siah Gav Twin Lake is no exception.
Surrounded by rolling plains and towering mountains, Siya Ghab is a breathtaking natural charm in Abdanan County, Ilam province, western Iran. According to local tour guides, it is a must-see destination for nature lovers, eco-tourists and adventure seekers.
What sets it apart from other lakes is its attractive natural structure. They are two different bodies of water connected by naturally formed canals. Approximately 70 meters long, 8 meters wide and 4 meters deep, the canal flows seamlessly between the two lakes, creating a dynamic, ever-changing aquatic ecosystem.
The clear, untouched ocean of Siah Gav Twin Lake makes it an extraordinary sight. Visitors can see the water depth of 30 meters, where fish swim in a massive, natural aquarium-like environment. The clear waters of the lake are not only visually stunning, but also full of life, but also become a paradise for nature lovers.
Geological and ecological significance
Skies Gav Twin Lakes, dating back thousands of years, are considered to be one of the most prominent paleontological phenomena in Ilam. The lakes were formed due to geological changes, including erosion and shifting of the Earth’s layers.
Such layers contribute to the unique composition of the lake, containing mineral-rich waters containing sulfur and other beneficial elements. The sweet and easy-to-drink water supports a variety of plant species that exist along the coast.
Activities and attractions
Siah Gav Twin Lake offers a wide range of activities for visitors. Fishing is a popular entertainment as the lake is home to a wide variety of fish species.
Hiking the lake and surrounding mountainous regions gives you the opportunity to experience breathtaking scenery and densely packed experiences with the diverse flora and fauna of Ilam. The peaceful environment in the area is perfect for picnics, birdwatching and photography.
During spring and summer, especially during the two-week vocation of the Persian New Year (Nowruz), the nomadic community set up traditional black tents known as the Siachador around the lake. Such nomadic camps offer visitors a genuine cultural experience and the opportunity to witness local delicacies and the traditional lifestyles of Iranian indigenous peoples.
