Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Monday said there was “no reason” to take part in negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, criticising Brussels for extending the conflict, the Moscow Times reported did.
Lavrov’s comments will meet top US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, ahead of his visit to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, European leaders had convened in Paris for an emergency summit in Ukraine amid warnings in Washington’s diplomatic outreach to Moscow.
At a press conference with his Serb counterpart in Moscow, Lavrov said: Why do we need to invite them at all? ”
The veteran foreign minister argued that Brussels had failed to help Moscow annex the Crimean Peninsula in 2014 and bring about a resolution of the conflict since Moscow first annexed the Crimean Peninsula and supported separatists in eastern Ukraine.
Washington argues that both Russia and Ukraine want to make concessions if the ceasefire conversation comes true.
However, Lavrov argued that Moscow would not compromise on Ukrainian territory, saying that its forces were seized in years of combat and that they had no “thinking” about it during negotiations.
The Kremlin claims they annexed the Ukrainian regions of Luhansk, Donetsk, Harson and Zapolizia, despite not having complete control over them.
