After an eye-opening clash between Donald Trump and Volodimia Zelensky in the White House, political leaders around the world competed to express their support for either one or the other.
Downing Street has remained unchanged in terms of language so far, with No. 10 issued a statement after a disastrous meeting on Friday saying that PM’s priorities spoke to both the US and the Ukrainian president.
However, other leaders have been much more open in setting a stall out behind one of the two men who have the president, prime minister and prime minister all joined social media in the last 24 hours.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tass first put the bloc on X shortly after the Trump Zelensky meeting collapsed. He tagged President Zelensky and wrote, “President Zelensky, my dear Ukrainian friend, you are not alone.”
However, in the ominous signs of Moscow, Vladimir Putin’s inner circle was extremely pleased that peace negotiations were revealed when it was posted by former Russian president and longtime Putin supporter Dimitry Medvedev.
On his part, despite being kicked out of the White House, Zelensky maintained a seemingly level of headlines and continued to appreciate his support.
He writes: “Thank you to America. Thank you for your support. Thank you for this visit. Thank you to President Trump, Congress and the Americans. Ukraine needs justice and peace.
Team Zelensky
While European leaders make up the majority of Ukraine’s supporters, there are also strong exhibits in countries such as Australia and Canada with close historical ties with the UK.
Poland – Prime Minister Donald Tass: “Dear Ukrainian friend, President Zelensky, you are not alone.”
France – President Emmanuel Macron: “There are invaders: Russia. There are victims. It was right to help Ukraine and sanction Russia three years ago. Independence, their children, and Europe’s security.”
European Commission – President Ursula von der Lain: “Your dignity respects the courage of the people of Ukrainians. Be strong, brave, fearless. You are never alone.
Germany – Probably the next German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz: “Dear Voldimi Zelensky, we are standing with Ukraine in an era of good and tests. We must not confuse invaders and victims in this horrifying war.”
Canada – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau: “Russia illegally and unfairly invaded Ukraine. Ukrainians have fought with courage and resilience. The battle for democracy, freedom and sovereignty is an important battle for all of us.
Australia – Prime Minister Anthony Albanese: “For three years, Australia has proudly supported the brave Ukrainian people in the struggle to defend their sovereignty in support of Russian aggression atrocities and international law. Australia stands with Ukraine.”
The above was accompanied by messages of support from Sweden, Ireland, Finland, Denmark, Netherlands, Austria, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, the Czech Republic, Portugal and others.
There are no declarations on either side of Team Trump or yet
Hungary – Prime Minister Victor Oban: “The strong make peace, the weak make war. Today, President Donald Trump stood bravely for peace, even if many people were difficult to digest.
Russia – Former President Dimitry Medvedev: “The stupid pig has finally been properly slapped in an oval office. And Donald Trump is right. The Kiev administration is “World War II and Gambling.”
India – India’s Prime Minister Narendra has not yet posted the incident directly, but in his latest statement, “India and Europe share a strong partnership built on shared values.” However, Modi is known to be friendly with the Trump administration, particularly Elon Musk.
Argentina – President Javier Miley recently shared the stage with Elon Musk, and the chainsaw hasn’t commented yet. However, the Argentine leader has previously argued, “I was the first to protect Ukraine against Russia. You will always have me on the right side of history.”
UK – Kiel IR Starma: Ahead of the summit of world leaders, including Zelensky, on Sunday, the only statement so far from Downing Street was:
“He holds unwavering support for Ukraine and is doing everything he can to find a way to lasting peace based on Ukraine’s sovereignty and security.”
