BEIJING – China’s top political advisory body held a press conference in Beijing on Monday, one day before the opening of its annual session.
A spokesman for the third session of the 3rd National Committee of the People’s Political Council of China (CPPCC) explained to the media team about the achievements of Asian countries
Liu Jieyi highlighted China’s performance, particularly in the economic sector, and outlined plans to advance the country’s industrial framework. “As long as we face challenges, have confidence and follow the plans of the party’s Central Committee, high quality development can reach new heights.”
He described 2024 as an important year to realize the goals of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025).
“The CPPCC National Committee will advance our incredible tradition, and fully perform the role of CPPCC as a professional consultation body, with our political responsibility in mind, and serve as the big picture with a focus on central tasks,” Li said.
He added, “We will strengthen our theoretical and political leadership, actively generate policy advice, build great modern socialist countries in all respects, and contribute our ideas and strengths to rejuvenate our nation through modernization of China.”
Numerous journalists have signed up to cover the third session of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, which begins Tuesday.
China’s top parliament, the National People’s Parliament (NPC), will also hold its annual session on Wednesday.
Annual meetings are called two sessions.
The two sessions in 2025 are extremely important from two different perspectives.
First of all, it will have a major impact on the country’s 15th year five-year plan (2026-2030).
China is ranked as the second largest economy in the world, and has achieved significant advances in the economic, industrial and technological sectors in recent years.
Second, this year’s two sessions may portray China’s strategy on trade disputes launched by US President Donald Trump.
Last week, the US president threatened Beijing with an additional 10% obligation, bringing a cumulative tariff of 20%.
China is preparing measures that are expected to take effect on Tuesday.
“China is researching and formulating relevant measures in response to the US threat of imposing an additional 10% tariff on Chinese products under the pretext of fentanyl,” according to the Global Times.
Citing an anonymous source, the report added, “measures are likely to include both tariffs and a series of non-tariff measures, and are likely to list both US agricultural products and food.”
The US traditionally emphasized China’s emphasis on agricultural exports during trade disputes. This shows that China has its own means to combat the US trade war. The decision now rests on the US as to whether it wants to extend the trade war or address issues with China through negotiations.
