Tehran – Golestan Province has added eight new cultural heritage sites (five archaeological sites and three historic buildings) to Iran’s national heritage list, according to a recent announcement by the state authorities.
Hamid Omrani Lekabandi, deputy director of the Cultural Heritage of the Directorate of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of Golestan, confirmed his registration on Monday. “Following two sessions of the National Council for the registration of historical and cultural properties, these eight important sites have been successfully registered,” he said.
Highlighting the rich cultural and historical heritage of the province, Omrani Lekabandi emphasized the diverse landscapes, deep-rooted civilization and rich historical landmarks in Golestan. “Registering these sites is an important step in preserving our heritage and ensuring proper recognition of them,” he pointed out.
Among the newly listed sites are five archaeological sites, dating back five years BC and extending to the early Islamic period. Their inclusion brings the total number of registered archaeological sites in Golestan to 655.
Additionally, three historic buildings have been added to the National Heritage List, increasing the total number of registered historic structures within the state to 166. With these latest additions, Golestan now boasts a total of 1,040 nationally recognized cultural heritage.
