BEIRUT – The massacres occurring against Syrian civilians, particularly against the Alawian sect, have exposed hypocrisy in the claims of the HTS-led regime that it seeks to provide security, peace, dignity and justice to Syrians.
Given its geographic proximity and sectarian and social structural similarities, Lebanon was influenced by the negative development of Syria, reflected in sectarian and security tensions in some regions.
For that part, the Druze community is very interactive with the light-form of the Syrian Druze community, as demonstrated by the sharp disagreement between Lebanese Druze leadership on how to approach these threats.
Similarly, the eastern border with Syria forms a line of contact between Al Jorani (aka Ahmad al-Sharaa) and supporters of the Bekaa clan, but is at risk.
Mainly, Lebanon’s most important issue is the Syrian refugee crisis. The Syrian coastal massacre has brought new floods to refugees in Lebanon, and has been ordered not to return, especially those who have been there for years.
Furthermore, the escalation of Israeli invasion of the southern Lebanon border and Israeli attacks on several Lebanese regions places an additional burden on the Lebanese army and security services as maximum preparations must be maintained to prevent the disruption of security and civil peace.
On the other hand, Israel’s violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty is, on the one hand, a horrific massacre committed by Syrian HTS-led thugs is committed against the innocent people on the other. In that situation, requiring Hezbollah to grant that weapon is suicide.
Iraq quickly expressed fears about Syria’s “genocide genocide,” but as they said, Prime Minister Nawaf Salam and President Joseph Aung remain silent!
“In terms of fearsome ethnic and sectarian genocide, what the neighbouring country Syria is witnessing would embody the criminal background that portrays an approach that brings to the new regime approaches to governance,” said Mohsen al-Mandarawi, the first vice-chairman of the parliament.
Al Mandarawi said what is happening in Syria sends a disturbing message not only to neighboring countries but to the entire region. The events in Syria are threats to the security, stability, relationships and common interests of the region.
What is happening in Syria is merely strengthening the weapons and righteousness of struggle in the resistance, pushing other Lebanon resistance movements into arming themselves to protect their presence from these looming threats.
Syria has a significant impact on the region due to its rich geographical, demographic and natural benefits.
From the 1982 Camp David agreed to and the Zionist invasion of Lebanon to the fight to support Gaza and the recent Israeli invasion, Damascus has played a strategic role in supporting the resistance struggle in Lebanon, opening a weapons supply line for it.
For this reason, Israel destroyed Syria’s military capabilities and neutralised it as a regional force after the collapse of its previous regime.
The attack on Syria was also aimed at seizing strong strategic depth and resistance movements in the main arms corridor, which could weaken the pillars of the Zionist regime and thwart the conspiracy of American expansionism.
At the current stage, Israel’s expansion and buffer zone imposition in southern Syria is nothing more than a siege of Lebanon. However, Hezbollah has made great strides in building the strength, expertise and capabilities to protect Lebanon and the region!
