Tehran – According to the seismological network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran Geophysics, a total of 513 earthquakes were recorded nationwide from May 22 to June 21, showing a 10.5% decrease compared to last year.
The number of earthquakes fell 26.9% compared to the second month of the Iranian calendar (April 21 to May 2), the IRNA reported.
Statistically, there are 447 earthquakes with a size less than 3. A 52 earthquake, between 3 and 4 size. There were 11 earthquakes, sized between 4 and 5, and three earthquakes, sized between 5 and 6.
Of the total, one was 5.3 on the Richter scale, which occurred in Semnan on June 20th.
Among the states of the country, 65-year-old Khorasan Razavi experienced the most earthquakes, followed by Kerman and Isfahan with 53 and 46 earthquakes, respectively.
During the same period, four earthquakes hit Tehran, with the largest earthquake at a size of 1.6 on the Richter scale.
According to the Earthquake Network of the Institute of Geophysics at the University of Tehran, a total of 6,272 earthquakes have been recorded nationwide in past calendar years (March 2024 – March 2025).
From the registered earthquakes, 150 were over four on the Richter scale. At least five earthquakes of 4.5 or more have occurred monthly in the country.
The Iranian plateau is located in a highly seismically active region of the world and is known not only for its major catastrophic earthquakes, but also for its natural disasters, particularly earthquake-related disasters.
Iran has about 2% of global earthquakes, but more than 6% of global earthquake casualties in the 20th century have been reported from Iranian earthquakes.
