TEHRAN – In a sweeping retaliatory operation, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and Iranian military launched large-scale attacks against U.S.-owned and Israeli-affiliated petrochemical and military targets, warning the U.S. government, Tel Aviv, and regional partners that any further attacks on Iranian infrastructure will be met with uncompromising retaliation.
The operation, called Wave 99, was carried out by the Revolutionary Guard’s naval and aerospace forces from dawn on Tuesday, according to an official statement. Iran’s military used a combination of ballistic and cruise missiles and drones to target U.S. military bases and interests across the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as Israeli command and control sites.
In the first phase of the attack, Iran successfully attacked a major U.S.-owned petrochemical complex in Saudi Arabia’s Jubail region, including Sadara, ExxonMobil, and Dow Chemical facilities. Chevron Phillips’ large petrochemical complex in Juaima, Saudi Arabia, also came under effective attack by medium-range missiles and suicide drones.
In a major attack against Israel, the Iranian army targeted power and fuel storage facilities in the Dimona industrial zone, home to the largest petrochemical complex in the Negev desert. Chemicals at the facility reportedly have applications in Israel’s military industry, underscoring the strategic importance of the attack.
The Iranian military also conducted a precision operation against an Israeli container ship that attempted to bypass the Strait of Hormuz and transport military equipment through the UAE’s Khor Fakkan port. The ship was successfully neutralized and sent a clear warning to vessels cooperating with Tel Aviv and Washington.
The Iranian military also attacked the US aircraft carrier strike group CVN 72 in the Indian Ocean with long-range cruise missiles, demonstrating Iran’s reach beyond the Persian Gulf.
“The foolish American leaders, who place all their interests at the feet of the Zionists, cannot even calculate which vital assets are in the crosshairs of our fighters,” the Revolutionary Guards said in a statement. “If America’s terrorist forces cross our red line, our response will extend beyond the region.”
The statement stressed that Iran will retaliate proportionately for attacks on critical infrastructure. “We will respond to the infrastructure of the United States and its allies in ways that deprive the region of oil and gas for years to come,” he warned.
The operation also targeted a U.S. naval maintenance center at Jebel Ali port in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and radar and military installations at Kuwait’s Ahmed Al Jaber Air Base, a key U.S. military logistics hub in the region.
The attack marks a continuation of Iran’s retaliatory response to the US and Israeli invasion that began on February 28, including the assassination of a senior Iranian military official. The Iranian government stressed that the successful counterattack had caused significant damage to the United States and Israel, highlighting the futility of the ongoing military operation.
