TEHRAN — A broad coalition of Latin American governments and political movements condemned recent U.S. and Israeli military attacks on Iran, expressed solidarity with Tehran and asserted that the attacks were a violation of international law.
The coordinated diplomatic pushback from Cuba to Chile draws on the region’s historic anti-imperialist stance and represents a unified challenge to U.S. and Israeli policy in West Asia.
Cuba’s foreign ministry said the attack was a “clear violation” of Iranian sovereignty and the United Nations Charter. President Miguel Diaz-Canel’s government expressed full solidarity with the Iranian government, and the speaker of Cuba’s parliament said the United States and Israel were the main threats to world peace.
The Brazilian government warned in an official statement that the attack undermines ongoing diplomatic efforts and poses a serious risk to global energy and food security. Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira condemned the airstrike in a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart. The left-wing Labor Party and the Brazilian Communist Party also issued statements affirming Iran’s right to self-defense.
Colombia’s president described the invasion as a “huge” threat to humanity and called for an immediate ceasefire. Chile’s Communist Party warned that the attack endangered regional and international stability.
In Venezuela, Fuerza Patriotica’s Alexis Vibe movement called the attack a continuation of imperialist aggression and praised Iran’s resistance. Peru’s leftist coalition Venceremos called for an immediate end to the attacks. Ecuador’s Communist Party rejected any justification based on “imminent threat” and accused imperialist powers of hiding hegemonic aims behind the rhetoric of security.
Smaller statements were also issued by the Communist Party of the Dominican Republic, the Communist Party of Uruguay, and Mexico, calling for détente and political dialogue.
