TEHRAN – The prime ministers of Japan and Pakistan spoke with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in separate telephone talks following the temporary ceasefire between Iran and the United States. Japan has stressed the urgency of de-escalating tensions and ensuring safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, while Pakistan has received official confirmation from the Iranian government that it will participate in future negotiations in Islamabad.
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi welcomed the recent joint announcement of a ceasefire by the United States and Iran as a positive development, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Furthermore, the Japanese leaders pointed out that the most important challenge now is to steadily achieve detente, including ensuring safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. He expressed hope that a final agreement would be quickly reached through diplomatic channels.
In a separate telephone conversation, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude for Iran’s wisdom and constructive attitude in accepting Pakistan’s proposal for a temporary ceasefire and subsequent negotiations with the United States.
In response, President Pezeshkian highly praised the efforts of Pakistani officials who worked hard to broker a temporary ceasefire, and expressed his best wishes to the Pakistani people.
Importantly, the Iranian president confirmed the Islamic Republic’s participation in upcoming talks scheduled in Islamabad, paving the way for the next phase of diplomatic engagement between Iran and Washington.
