Tehran – The 17th edition of the Iranian Regional Music Festival is held in the southern province of Hormozgan, with participation from 32 groups representing 22 provinces across the country.
The festival will be held from April 25th to 28th in Bandar Abbas, a port city surrounded by the Persian Gulf.
The festival aims to showcase a variety of musical talents over four days, and to provide a platform for artists from diverse local backgrounds.
Festival secretary Foad Tohidi emphasized the importance of characterizing new faces between selected groups and individuals, and said efforts have been made to include many who have not participated in recent years.
Tohidi also noted that the performances will not only be held at the main venue, but also at two additional locations in Bandar Abbas city, allowing a larger audience to enjoy the artist’s performance.
Artists Khorasan Razavi, Lorestan, Kordestan, Bushehr, Khuzestan, and Golestan Provinces will showcase their talents at this year’s festival.
Iranian regional and folk music is a kind of music transmitted over generations among the people of the country, and often includes a variety of songs. The diversity of Iranian folk music has often been emphasized, reflecting the ethnic and regional diversity of the country.
Usually, Iranian folk musicians are taught art by their families. There are many different types of traditional musicians specializing in Iranian folk music, some of which are attributed to specific ethnic and regional groups.
