The documentary “The Professional,” directed and produced by Tehran-Masoud Taheri, will be screened on April 28th at Ecole Pratique des Hautesétudes (Ephe) in Paris, France.
This is a film about the life and work of Professor Mohammad Ali Amir Moji, a Shiite scholar in French Iran, reported Honaronlein.
Efe is a public higher education institution of training and research, both in humanities, social and applied sciences, based at the University of Sorbonne in Paris.
Mohammad Ali Amir-Moezzi (69) is an Islamic scholar of Ephe. He is one of the leading scholars in his early Twelver Shi’ism studies.
He will give speeches at the sessions before screening the film, including French art historian and president of Effe Michel Hochmann, sponsored by Effe Marie Pierre Lamott and director of the funding fund, and research director of Effe Constant Armignon.
Amir-Moezzi also attends the session and speaks to the audience after the film is screened.
The documentary aims to educate the global community, particularly Iran, the hometown of Amir Moji. It is about intellectual insights from scholars that are little known within Iran and internationally.
As an expert on Shia’s doctrine, his views are directly related to current religious and political trends in Iran. The documentary therefore provides this exiled academic with the opportunity to engage directly with the audience.
The film also aims to clarify how Amir Moezi’s intellectual stance differs from dominant religious studies and Islamic intellectual discourse. The film has already been a huge success and has been featured at the 18th edition of the film Verite Festival national convention.
Born in Tehran, Mohammad Ali Amir Moetzi was a former research director in Ephe’s religious science department.
After studying in Tehran and Paris, he received his PhD in 1991 from the University of Paris III and Ephe. His doctoral dissertation was awarded the MAHVI Foundation in Geneva’s top prize for his best doctoral dissertation in Islamic Studies.
Since 2015, he has been holding monthly seminars at the University of Paris (PSL) with Professors Jill Kapel and Bernard Rougier.
Masoud Taheri is an Iranian writer, researcher, director and film producer. He combines technical knowledge with the background of Persian literature, history and philosophical research, focusing on the scientific approach of philosophical, mystical and cultural cinema, as well as the history of philosophy, wisdom, mysticism in the world, Shii’s history and theology.
His recent works include “Al Kafi,” a documentary on Shi’i Hadith Compiler Al-Kulayni, a life and work of French philosopher and iranologist Henry Corbyn, and a documentary on the “East” on the legacy of Japanese scholar Toshihiko Izutsu.
