Tehran – The 78th Cannes Film Festival has announced a slow, broken addition to the 2025 festival lineup, including a new film by Iranian filmmaker Saeed Lutai.
The contest for the film “Palme d’or” in the competition section moved from the first choice from 19 to 21. Titled “Woman and Child,” Roustayi’s fourth film took part in this year’s official selection, competing with Ari Aster’s “Eddington,” including Richard Linklater’s “nouvelle vote,” and “neard by by by jornerson’s “jounsers by” jearderson’ ‘nousian Jean-Pierre & Luc Dardenne, Irna reported.
Goodfellas, a French company known as Cannes Whisperers, has made its way into sales for the Iranian drama. Payman Maadi (Tehran’s Law, Separation) and Hassan Pourshirazi (The Old Bachelor) are also on the cast alongside Soha Niasti, Fereshteh Sadre Orafaee, Maziar Seyedi and Sahar Glacoost.
Roustayi was nominated for “Leila’s Brothers” in 2022. The film won the Fiplesci Prize at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
Saeed Roustayi, 35, is a filmmaker, screenwriter and producer. His work focuses primarily on the issue of social injustice and the portrayal of women in Iranian society.
He graduated from Sole University and earned a bachelor’s degree in film and television. He won two Crystal Simoog Awards for his debut feature film, Life and A Day (2016) at the FAJR International Film Festival for his best director and best script. The film also won the best feature of 2016 Reflet D’Or at Tous Ecrans at the Geneva International Film Festival.
Roustayi’s second feature film, “Law of Tehran” (2019), was nominated for the Cesar Award for Best Foreign Film. It received good reviews from critics at the 76th Venice Film Festival and won multiple awards at the 37th FAJR Film Festival, including Crystal Simoog for viewers’ choice.
The thriller drama “The Law of Tehran” (also known as “6.5”) was included in the list of 50 Best Films released in the UK by the Guardian in 2023
The 78th Cannes Film Festival will be held from May 13th to 24th. Famous French actress Juliet Binoce will serve as the ju judge for the main contest. The Palme de Oa of Honor will be awarded to famous actor Robert de Niro at the opening ceremony of the festival.
