TEHRAN – Iranian Culture and Islamic Leader Seyed Abbas Salech attended Pope Francis’ funeral at St. Peters Square in Vatican City on Saturday, appearing alongside world-class officials.
Salehi, representing President Masuud Pezeschkian, accompanied by Iran’s Vatican ambassador, Mohammad Hossein Moktari, paid tribute to the late Crown Prince, who died Monday at the age of 88 after losing health, the IRNA reported.
Separately, Ambassador to the United Nations Office in Geneva, Ali Bareini, signed a book by saddened dol on the Vatican’s permanent mission on Thursday, expressing his sympathy for Tehran, the IRNA reported.
On Friday, Salech shared a post about Pope Francis’ funeral, writing that “simplicity, humility, compassion for the poor, solidarity with the oppressed, especially those in the suffering of Gaza, was loved.”
“He lived a different life, stayed prominent, found a place in the hearts of people. May his memories be respected,” he writes.
Pope Francis, a leader of Catholics around the world, had played a prominent role in fostering interfaith dialogue in recent years, passed away on April 21st at the Vatican at the age of 88.
