Tehran – Mehdi Gholami Orchestra, featuring famous Iranian musician Keivan Saket, will perform a variety of repertoire in three sections of classical, mugham and local music at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall on May 28th.
Hamed Lak will be the master of the chorus and Atabak Atli will become the vocal soloist for the concert, Isna reported on Wednesday.
The first segment highlights traditional Persian classical music played by the Vasilli Orchestra under the direction and composition of Caiban Sackett.
Performers in this section include Tar, Vahid Soleimaninejad from Kamanche, Ashkan Moradi, Kamanche, Mahjan Meraban from Kanun, and Sarazaminian and Chiarassaket from Tomabaku.
The second part features local folk music. In this segment, Mohsen Kayhan Nejad will be joining DAF in Tombak, Majid Maleki, Kiarash Bayat, Amin Reziarad on Drums in Tar, and Vahid Soleimaninejad and Ashkan Moradi at Kamancheh next to the orchestra.
The third section is dedicated to Mugam music, where compositions are performed with prominent figures in Mugam music and works composed by Mehdigorami himself. Nostalgic songs from this genre will also be featured. Tanbur’s Sirvan Shabani and Heidar Heidari, as well as Alireza Hassan-Nia as vocalists, will perform in this segment.
Over all three sections, the concert will feature 70 choir singers and 50 DAF players.
Saket, 63, is a highly acclaimed Iranian composer and music researcher. He has held many concerts in Iran, Canada and Australia. He founded Vaziri Orchestra in 1996 and has since performed many works with them. He has also worked with many great Iranian musicians, including the late Parvis Meshkatian.
Saket is Iran’s fastest tar and setter (traditional Iranian instrument) player. He has always believed in introducing traditional Iranian music to the world. One way he does so was to promote what Iranian instruments could play through his show.
Along with his traditional albums, Saket released two modern albums. On his albums he played very quickly and complicated pieces.
