Tehran – A total of 19 films from Iran exist on the 20th of the ongoing Family and Children’s Film Festival in Moscow, Russia.
Iranian participants include one feature film and 18 short films. Written and directed by Babak Khajehasha, “The Arms of Tree” is Iran’s only feature film to be selected as the main program of the festival, Irna reported.
“The Arms of Tree” tells the story of Kimia and Farid, a couple who have been married for 12 years.
The film explores the themes of family relationships and emotional reconnection between parents and children. At the heart of the story is Kimia, a northern mother who tackles the trauma of past abuse and the debilitating fears of distance. Her husband, Farid, is Azeri’s father, who has a passion for travel and medicinal plants, and the tension increases as the couple prepares for a separation movement.
The film captures the effects of marital discords on children, showing how their lives are hindered by the struggles of their parents. Ultimately, it emphasizes the importance of love, connection and delicate balance needed to maintain a family in a crisis.
Maral Baniadam, Javad Ghamati, Rouhollah Zamani, Ahoura Lotfi and Rayan Lotfi are in the cast.
The 2023 production, the film won two Crystal Simoog Awards for its best first film and best script, premiering at the 41st FAJR Film Festival. Additionally, it was named the best film in the international section of the first edition of Iran’s Havba International Film Festival in 2023.
He also won the Special Juju Award at the 10th Asian World Film Festival held in California, USA in November 2024, and won the Best World Film Feature Film Award at the 22nd Chennai International Film Festival held in Chennai, India in December 2024.
The film has been shown at several international festivals in countries such as China, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates. In addition, last September, the Kazan International Film Festival Altin Mimber opened in Russia.
The Iranian short films chosen for the Russian festival include “Replaceable,” a fantasy animation directed by Abdullah Alimorad, the drama “The Last Look” by Omid Essaili, the fiction “Alfan Extract” by Mahyar Gezel-Soflu, and the drama “Alfan Extract” by Nazir Mirzai, the drama “Paiam Mirmam by dragy by the baym kerm kerm kerm kerm kerm kerm dragy by fiant dragy by the paidasy drama Esmail “Tears of Rain” by Abbasi, the social documentary “Mozafar” by Amirali Mirderikvand, and The Social Drama “TV “Mostafa Tashakori, The Amin Rafi drama “Boycott,” the drama by Amin Rafi, the social drama “Sheen,” the animated film “Bat Daddy by scif fearbar,” the “Stratosphere,” by Mahmoud Pouyandeh, the children’s film “The Debt,” the sci-fi thriller “Liberation,” by Sarah Mullan and Amen Sahrai, the social drama “Vera,” by Amir Malamiri, the story “Everything Is The Bern,” by Nima Tapandeh, and Social Drama “Bordeaui by Asiman Tousi.”
During the Family International Festival of Family and Children’s Films, we present the best films from over 20 participating countries each year for family audiences.
The main goal is the spread of films that talk about love and loyalty and maintain the regeneration of family values as their general idea. The festival’s programme includes three competitions: Features (Main), Features and Animation (For Kids), Shorts, Business and Social Events. This is Russia’s largest family film festival.
For many years, the festival has come to watch, evaluate and present films, and has been a friendly encounter point for film industry experts around the world.
The 20th edition of the Family International Festival, which began on July 5th, concludes on July 9th.
