Tehran – The 2011 science fiction drama film “Melancholia” is written and directed by Lars von Trier and will be exhibited on Monday at the Cinema Tech at the Iranian Artist Forum (IAF) in Tehran.
The 130-minute film will be screened at Naseri Hall at 6pm as the 624th program of IAF Cinematec, followed by a review session attended by film critic Amil Hossain Bereuse.
The film stars Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainesbourg and Kiefer Sutherland, and is supported by Alexander Skarsgard, Brady Corbett, Cameron Spar, Charlotte Rampling, Jesper Christensen, John Hart, Stellan Skarsgard and Udo Keer.
The story revolves around two sisters who feel that an already trained relationship is challenging. Just as a blue planet called Melancholia is on the verge of colliding with Earth, the relationship between two sisters, Claire and Justin, passes through the ups and downs as fear grasps them.
“Melancholia” premiered at the 64th Cannes Film Festival in 2011, where it won a critically acclaimed award. Many critics and film scholars consider the film a masterpiece.
In addition to Von Trier’s previous film “Dogville” (2003), it has been included in the polls of the best films of 2016 since the BBC’s run since 2000, and has since been featured on various lists of the best films of the 21st century.
69-year-old Lars Von Trier is a Danish film director and screenwriter. Von Trier’s career, beginning in the late 1960s as a child actor working on the secret summer of Danish television series, lasted for over 50 years.
Considered a leading figure in the European film industry, he and his work have been described as both technically innovative and ambitious and provocative. His films provide conflicting examination of existential, social and political issues, and dealing with topics such as mercy, sacrifice and mental health.
Von Trier co-created the Avant-Garde Filmmaking Movement Dogme 95 with fellow director Thomas Vinterberg and co-founded the Danish film production company Zentropa.
The Iranian Artist Forum is located in the Artist Park on North Musabi Street on Talekani Street.
