Tehran – The latest film by Iranian and British filmmaker Hassan Nazar, entitled “No Permission,” will premiere the world premiere in the official competition section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival, which will be held in Korea from September 17th to 26th.
“No Permission” is a 2025 Iranian and Scottish drama written, directed and produced by Nazer. Another Iranian director, Behrouz Sebt Rasoul, also featured Tajikistan’s submission to the 2025 Oscar international feature film category in the film. Award-winning Iranian cinematographer Ali Mohammad Gasemi is the director of photography.
The film follows the story of an exiled Iranian filmmaker who was turned into children after being denied permission to create a scripted project and turned to children and was directed at children to capture the candid voices and perspectives on love, identity and freedom. By secretly filming in hidden places, the story evolves into reflections on self-expression within a world of limitations.
Hassan Nazer, 45, is a film director, screenwriter, editor and producer. He moved from his hometown of Garmssal to Tehran and took theatre courses under Iranian director Hamid Samandarian. Moving to Scotland in 2000, he attended the University of Aberdeen, where he studied film and visual culture. He also began building a restaurant business to support his filmmaking, raising enough money to ultimately fund his own independent films.
His fourth film, “Utopia,” about Afghan women when she travels to the UK for artificial insemination, was selected as the Afghan entry for the 88th Academy Awards and the best foreign language film at the Golden Globes. The film has won over 18 awards at national and international film festivals.
